The Toilers and the Wayfarers

The film's story revolves around the struggles of two 16-year-old boys, Dieter (Matt Klemp) and Philip (Andrew Woodhouse), and the difficulties they face growing up gay in a small American town of German heritage, New Ulm, Minnesota.

The tension that builds as they conceal their sexual identities forces Philip to flee for the big city, Minneapolis. Once there, he eventually turns to prostitution as a means of filling his financial and emotional void.

Meanwhile, in New Ulm, his friend Dieter continues to deny his sexuality as he struggles under the weight of a puritanical home environment. During this time, he teams up with Udo (Ralf Schirg), a German man in his late 20s, who, has recently emigrated to America in search of the idyllic life portrayed in movies and TV.
